Flyiisi — multilingual flight booking that takes card and mobile-money payments

Flyiisi serves Finnish travellers and companies, and travellers flying to East Africa and the Middle East. We built the booking engine's API, a multilingual website and payments that work in both Finland and Kenya.

What we built

  1. Booking engine API

An API on top of an airline booking system: flight search, fare rules and bookings.

  2. Multilingual, localised website

Several languages and currencies, including right-to-left languages. It talks to the API through a typed client.

  3. Payments

Cards with 3-D Secure, an online wallet, mobile money and cash in one booking flow.

  4. Currencies and prices

Prices in euros, dollars, pounds or Kenyan shillings, with exchange rates and the service's pricing margin.

  5. Booking assistant

An AI assistant searches flights in conversation, shows them as flight cards and prepares the booking, which the customer confirms in the normal booking flow.

  6. Support and tracking

Booking and support in a messaging app, with one number for East Africa and one for Finland, and server-side conversion tracking.

What was hard

Search results that expire

Search results expire if a customer thinks too long. The service searches again and finds the chosen flight by its flight numbers and departure dates, so the customer doesn't start over.

Two worlds, one checkout

A Finn pays by card, a Kenyan by mobile money. One booking flow needed several payment methods, currencies and languages — including right-to-left languages.
